Relational vs Non-Relational Databases

What is the difference between relational and non-relational databases and what database type is better? There’s a world of difference between them and as for which to use, it’s based on your end game. I recently wrote this article for Pluralsight on relational vs non-relational databases.

When comparing relational and non-relational databases, it’s important to first note that these two very different types of databases are equally useful in their own right—but for contrasting reasons and use-cases. One type of database is not better than the other type, and both relational and non-relational databases have their place.

The intent of this article is to describe what a relational database is, what a non-relational database is, and then conclude with a summary of the properties for each of these database types in an effort to help you decide which best suits your needs.
